Destination focus: The Baltics

Scenic, cultural, and easy to reach, the Baltic states have always been a firm favourite for Russian tourists.

So much so that Russia occupies a huge market share for these countries’ tourism sectors. In 2018, Russia was Latvia’s no.1 source market, Estonia’s second largest source market and Lithuania’s third largest source market.

Statistics from 2018 also show the number of Russian tourists travelling to the Baltics is growing.

  • Latvia saw 418,000 trips made by Russian tourists (+10%)
  • Estonia saw 1.8 million trips made by Russian tourists (+4%)
  • Lithuania saw 635,000 trips made by Russian tourists (-0.5)

Over the first half of 2019, Latvia saw a further 7% growth and Lithuania a 0.3% rise.

This is excellent news for travel companies and accommodation providers in the Baltic states.
