Spain’s national tourism brand will be widely presented at MITT – one of the most important tourism exhibitions in Russia, held in Moscow from 14-16 March 2017. Representatives of hotels, tourist boards, and autonomous communities will all be showcasing their services at the exhibition. This year, Turespaña, the Spanish Institute of Tourism will hold a 384 sqm group stand presenting 26 sub exhibitors. Over the years, Spain has taken the title of Best Destination in Europe and Best Stand at MITT.
Spain is a leading holiday destination both in terms of volume of tourists and income from tourism. The Spanish Tourism Research Institute (IET) reports that Spain saw a record 75.6 million foreign tourists in 2016, which is 10.3% more than in 2015.
Spain is an attractive and popular holiday destination for Russians. The Spanish Border Survey of Inbound Tourism (FRONTUR) claims that 1,007,709 tourists arrived from Russia in 2016, 2.2% more than in 2015. Data from hotel surveys show that Russians spent 4,100,029 nights in Spain, a 7.7% increase on 2015.
Relations between Russia and Spain have a long history spanning many centuries. Collaboration in tourism and increasing tourism flows to develop bilateral relations are a priority for both countries. The Dual Year of Tourism Russia-Spain 2016-2017, which started on 5 April last year in Madrid and will continue until May 2017 with an official closing in St. Petersburg, is enabling the Department of Tourism of the Spanish Embassy in Moscow and other state institutions and companies to organise various events for tourism professionals and develop a range of marketing activities for tourists. The main aim is to update the public perception of brand Spain as a modern, quality, and diverse destination. Turespaña’s strategy in the Russian market is focussed on expanding offers for beach holidays at more familiar and less well-known coasts, as well as strengthening the Sun and Beach tourism product by combining it with others such as Cultural, City, Gastronomic, Museums, Shopping, Idiomatic, Sports (i.e. golf, horse riding, skiing) and M.I.C.E.
2017 is a fantastic year for travel. Spain’s rich culture, history, and cuisine are waiting to be discovered. Its cuisine is simply a way of life and delights at every opportunity. Fancy trying Iberian ham and shrimps in Huelva, the Spanish gastronomic capital? Or sipping wine in Cambados, the 2017 European City of Wine? Spain offers a wide variety of unforgettable activities and adventures, as well as more than 260 celebrations over the year.
