We have had a busy show at MITT 2017. We had a 15 to 20% increase in Russian visitors last year, which was great for us. The extension of the tourism period to November and December has been very good as well. Next year, we are expecting growth of about 20%.
— Polikarpos Efstathiou, Director, Greek National Tourism Organisation in Russia
MITT has been wonderful – it is a very nice event, and we have seen a lot of interest in Venezuela. Everything has been wonderful, and we are sure the rest of the show will be exactly the same.
— Vladimir Molina, International Positioning Director, Ministry of People’s Power for Tourism, Venezue
Around a million and a half Russians came to Italy last year. They stay 3.7 nights on average, which makes around five million nights per year. And in 2016, they spent 2.5% more than in 2015. Russians are big spenders in Italy – the second-highest nationality. The first day of MITT 2017 has been very good and very interesting for Italy. We have noticed a huge interest in our country at the show – Russia and Italy have a close connection with tourism.
— Giovanni Bastianelli, Executive Director, Italian State Tourist Board
The number of Russians visiting Indonesia grew almost 23% in 2016 – and this is without a direct flight from Moscow to Jakarta. When this is launched, we hope that tourism flows will increase in both directions. I’m very optimistic that events like MITT will increase tourism on both sides – it will create more people to people contact.
— Mohamad Wahid Supriyadi, Ambassador of Indonesia to Russia
According to Spanish statistics, 1,007,709 Russians came to Spain in 2016, a growth of 2.2%. The situation in Turkey and Greece has helped us increase our market share. MITT is like a thermometer of the market, and this year the feeling among the tour operators and visitors is positive. They have told me they expect increases of 15 to 20% compared to last year. We are optimistic about the market – we have 20% more reservations at this point in 2017 compared to the same time last year.
— Luis Boves Martín, Moscow Office Director, Turespaña
MITT plays a vital role in our marketing plan – we are planning to take a larger stand following resumption of flights, with more participation from our colleagues in Egypt. We are planning a large space, designed in an attractive way, to catch the interest of our partners in Russia. Please be ready!
"There are only several events in the world that attract so many people, MITT is one of them. MITT is a chance to communicate with both the fairs in the market and the customers. Exhibiting at MITT shows that we are doing well and allows us to promote our services."
— Mr Viktor Andronov
Lusitana Sol, Portugal
"This year we decided to have a separate stand as we feel it is more effective to be alone. It is very important to be at MITT, it is the most important tourism fair that we participate in. We have had a lot of visitors to our stand and next year we will come again."
— Lia Bortnikova, Department of Incoming Tourism
Nicaraguan Tourism Board
"This is our third time exhibiting at MITT. The event is an important event as we now know that Russians are not just looking for luxury but they are also looking for a cultural experience - this is what we have. Almost 500,000 Russians visit Nicaragua, it is a low number but for us it is important as they have high spending power, and this gives us a big opportunity to do more investment into our tourism services."
— Ana Carolina Garcia, Director, Marketing and Promotional Department
Changi Airport Group
Russia is a key strategic long haul market for us; the latest figures show that from September 2012 to September 2013 we had approximately 75,000 Russians travelling through our airport – this is more than a 10% growth from the previous year! When we look at travel exhibitions, MITT is one of the key events. Our co-exhibitors find MITT a useful platform to stand in touch with existing customers as well as to make new business.”
— Jaisey Yip, Senior Manager
Ministry of Tourism, Israel
“Throughout the years we find that MITT is an excellent place for us to promote Israel and to promote our interest in Russia."
— Pini Shani , Deputy Director of Marketing
“Russia became a priority market for Brazil last year and in 2013 we had over 25,000 Russian tourists. I’m sure that we are going to confirm our participation for 2015 and I’m thrilled to have received an award for the best newcomer.”
— Marco Antonio de Britto Lomanto, Director of Products and Tourist Destinations
Catalunya Tourism Board
“This is the most important touristic event in the ex-Soviet Union. We have 30 active participants and over 150 Catalonian representatives here. I’ve observed visitors at MITT 2014 are even more professional than usual.”
— Josep M Perramon, Director of East European Countries
Ministry of Tourism, Tunisia
“Russia is a market that is expanding very quickly. MITT is very interesting, very diverse and very rich – it is an occasion to meet all the tour operators.”
— Jamel Gamra, Minister
Embassy of Iceland in Moscow
“The interest that we have seen gives us every reason to consider exhibiting next year. MITT is clearly a very professional exhibition which is on par with the WTM exhibition and other international travel fairs.”
— Albert Jonsson, Ambassador
Essential Costa Rica
“We’ve had a very good movement of industry visitors who have regularly attended our stand over the past two days. MITT is one of the shows that is becoming more important for Costa Rica."
— James F Heilyn, Marketing
“In the first two days we have already contacted the top 10 tour operators in Russia.”
— Nuno Fortes, Marketing Officer
“We feel that Russia is a very important market for us. Around 86,000 Russians visited the Maldives last year. We have been participating at MITT for many years and the feedback is very positive from our colleagues. MITT is a place for business!”
— AIbrahim Asim, Deputy Director
South African Embassy in Moscow
“We see MITT as a very important platform and a springboard to tap into the Russian market."
— Ms Tokozile Xasa, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Republic of South Africa
