MITT 2019 opens for business

The Moscow International Travel and Tourism Exhibition, better known as MITT, opened its doors to travel industry professionals today for the 26th time.

The exhibition began with the opening ceremony, attended by officials from many different countries, representatives of exhibiting companies, and heads of tourist associations.

Speakers at the opening ceremony included Elena Drapeko, Deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation; Igor Fomin, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy and Chairman of the Expert Council on Tourism under the Committee of the Federation Council; Sergey Krivonosov, Deputy of the State Duma; Sergey Shpilko, President of the Russian Union of Travel Industry; Tatiana Sharshavitskaya, Deputy Chairman Committee of Tourism of the city of Moscow; Pavel Dityatev, Minister of Economic Development of the Altai Territory, and Dmitry Zavgorodniy, Director General of MITT organisers ITE.

The speakers noted the importance of MITT for the global tourism industry, particularly with Russia opening up for the international tourism market more and more. “MITT is one of the largest tourist exhibitions in the world, where you can feel the heartbeat of big business, the tourism and hospitality industry, an exhibition where important decisions are made,” commented Sergey Shpilko.

The Director of the Tourism Promotion Directorate of the Ministry of Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman, Salim Aday Al Mamari, also spoke at the ceremony. Cooperation with Russia is very important for Oman, sponsors of the opening ceremony. The state has not only simplified the visa regime, but has recently opened a representative office in Moscow.

Speaking too at the opening ceremony, Khaled Bin Humud Al-Khalifa, Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Department, Partner Country of MITT 2019 noted that the exhibition is a great opportunity for Bahrain to present its country on the Russian market.



Following the opening ceremony, the business programme kicked off with a session on how to improve the effectiveness of tourist information centres, a session profiling the Russian tourist, and many more business events on what was just the first day of a packed three-day programme.

Out in the halls, the stands were buzzing with business discussions and meetings between exhibiting companies and potential partners.

"It has been a successful first day and we are looking forward to the second and third day. Hopefully we can meet even more agents and partners," said a representative of Farhat Tours, Bahrain.
