Discover the Dominican Republic at MITT 2019
Located on the island of Hispaniola, Dominicans affectionately call their homeland Quisqueya, which translates as ‘the mother of all lands’. This is a country of discoveries and accomplishments. Here, during his first expedition in 1492, Christopher Columbus landed, and the first Spanish settlement in America, or ‘New World’, appeared.

Today, the first European city in the Americas, Santo Domingo, is the capital of the Dominican Republic and continues to grow, while maintaining its original Spanish architecture. The Dominican Republic not only has a unique history, but is also among the Caribbean countries with the most diverse landscape, nature, and population.

In less than three hours from a sandy beach you can get to a cool mountain town at an altitude of over 500 meters above sea level. The country’s coast stretches over more than 1,600 km and has hundreds of stunning beaches. There are more than 6,000 plant species in the country, including flowering cacti, 7,000 animal species, endemic hawk species and humpback whales.

The multinational culture of the Dominican Republic was formed mainly under the influence of the Taino Indians, Europeans and Africans, as well as the most diverse ethnic groups that have been living in the Dominican Republic since the 19th century.

In whatever corner of the Dominican Republic - on the coast, in the green mountain towns, fishing villages or in the middle of the natural landscape, the country presents itself anew. Travellers cannot help but share its passion for music and dancing and varied local cuisine while experiencing the highest level of hospitality. Together, these invaluable aspects form the spirit of the Dominican Republic.
