Kenya's stand at a major international tourism fair in Moscow Monday drew hundreds of visitors seeking information on its products.
Ten tour and travel operators are in Moscow to showcase Kenya's products and market the country as a safe tourist destination following the end of two months of post- election violence.
Kenya Tourist Board managing director Achieng Ongong'a is leading the Kenyan delegation, which includes his deputy Mr Michael Riungu, exhibitions manager Joe Sanna and KTB eastern Europe's regional manager Rachael Lofty.
Kenya's ambassador to Russia Sospeter Machage is among those who visited the Kenyan stand as the curtains fell on the Moscow International Travel and Tourism exhibition. The fair is said to be the world's third biggest and has attracted companies from 118 countries.
On Monday, visitors gathered at the Kenyan stand to watch presentations by Waza Afrika cultural dancers, who accompanied the tourism stakeholders to the fair.
The visitors inquired on Kenya's products and were assured of their safety if they visited the country.
Dr Ongong'a and Dr Machage said the post-election violence that left over 1,000 people dead had dented Kenya's image abroad but they were happy that a speedy political solution to the crisis had been found .
They assured those who wanted to visit the country that Kenyans were peaceful people and that the violence would not recur.
Earlier, Dr Machage said Kenya has to improve its marketing strategy to properly penetrate the eastern Europe market.
The country, he said, has to embrace new advertising and information communication technology to woo part of the two million Russians who visit other countries annually.
Dr Machage regretted that currently only less than 5,000 Russians visit Kenya in a year yet the two countries have enjoyed a 40-year relationship. Close to one million Russians visit Egypt annually.
